Pantau — CCTV Management and Operator Access

Pantau is a CCTV management application already used in building operations, with about 120 cameras and three recorders. Cameras are organized by area, operators use individual accounts, and administrators assign each operator's accessible areas. Event and footage navigation is available through a browser on the site's network.

I developed the application and its recorder integration. The site remains anonymous. This project covers CCTV monitoring and management; AI analytics is described separately as the Pantau Analytics prototype.

Operational problem

Cameras from different recorders need to appear in views matching the team's work areas, such as the lobby, lifts, car park, or warehouse. Staff also need to find the relevant camera and time after an incident report.

Shared accounts make operator activity harder to trace. Access should follow responsibilities: parking staff do not automatically need cameras throughout the building.

The workflow built

NeedHow Pantau handles it
Monitor a particular areaCameras from compatible recorders are arranged in area-based views
Limit operator accessAdministrators assign roles and accessible areas; cameras follow those area assignments
Review incidentsMotion events and a timeline help select the footage to examine
Review application activityRecords identify the account, action, related camera or object, and time
Identify missing picturesViews and history show changes in picture availability, without diagnosing the cause

The system enforces access rather than merely hiding options on a screen. Cameras are grouped for access through areas. Additional permissions, such as footage export or individual-camera restrictions, need to be specified and tested within the project scope.

Working with existing CCTV

Video recordings stay on the CCTV recorder or NVR. Pantau manages views, access, and footage navigation through available integrations. If the application PC stops, the recorder can continue recording while its own hardware and configuration remain functional.

Compatibility is checked by model, firmware version, video profile, and playback function. RTSP or ONVIF support alone does not guarantee every function works. See the ONVIF and RTSP integration guide.

Test evidence and capacity limits

During the site test on 29 September 2026, one recorder accepted 27 connections to 1080p video channels through one session; 26 channels delivered video. This describes that test configuration. Operating capacity depends on the recorder, network, PC, video profiles, and number of operators.

This test does not establish AI analytics capacity. Connection design and recovery are discussed in the Go backend article for many cameras.

Assessing your site's needs

Prepare camera counts, recorder models, area assignments, operator counts, and examples of incidents your team often reviews. These help assess existing software, integration feasibility, and customization needs.

If your current software already meets the workflow, custom development may not be necessary. Pantau is worth discussing when requirements remain unmet and the devices can be integrated.

Discuss your CCTV management needs. The initial 15-minute discussion is free; site surveys, on-site tests, and development scope are discussed after the initial requirements are understood.
