Legacy System Improvement & Modernization

I help businesses improve systems that are difficult to maintain or no longer match their team’s needs. We review problems, access, and dependencies before choosing changes. Work is prioritized in stages, with testing and recovery planning. The aim is to keep change manageable while giving your team a clearer basis for using and maintaining the system.

When do you need improvements?

The system frequently fails, adding features is risky, or documentation was left behind when a previous developer departed. Separate applications may no longer exchange data properly. Like renovating a building still in use, the work sequence must account for ongoing activity.

What can I help with?

  • Reviewing code, documentation, data flows, and operational problems.
  • Mapping urgent issues and areas that need another specialist.
  • Improving agreed integrations or parts of the system.
  • Planning tests, data migration, and rollback if a change fails.
  • Documenting the system for the team that will maintain it.

The review may show that some parts should stay as they are. A complete replacement needs a clear rationale and scope.

How does the project work?

We start with a bounded review and a priority list. Changes are tested in a separate environment before reaching the main system. Rollout follows data readiness, operating schedules, and approval from the system owner.

You provide authorized code or access, example problems, documentation, and an operational contact. Backups and recovery access need review before changes. Lost data recovery, third-party service shutdowns, or major technology changes need their own discussion. Without enough access, the scope may be limited.

Relevant project experience

The visitor management integration brought information from two systems into one dashboard. It illustrates work connecting systems that are already in use.

Describe your system’s problems and current condition so we can define an initial review.
